Dr Jon Elliott
Jon is a highly experienced Project Manager. He spent three years as Head of Global Project Management for a division of a complex FTSE 100 FMCG business. In this role he led a global project management team delivering the new product pipelines for a group of major globally established brands across R&D, Commercial and Supply Chain functions, delivering innovation sales of £188m in one year.
Strengths and Career Achievements
As leader of a Global Project Management team, Jon drove change across the division of a major FMCG company, designing and implementing the Portfolio & Project Governance processes and chairing the Portfolio Management Governance boards for their global brands to shape and refine the pipeline. Additionally he was responsible for creating the project management capability across multiple functions, and coaching and mentoring the Global Project Management team.
Previous to this, Jon worked for 13 years as a Project Manager in roles of increasing responsibility within the same firm. Beginning with the delivery of individual projects, he soon became responsible for project portfolios, wider teams and business change. He was accountable for a succession of critical global projects, typically worth £50-100m.
Jon has a background as a research scientist. He has a BSc and PhD in biochemistry and began his career in R&D for new products. He also holds an MBA in Technology Management from the Open University and a PMP qualification from the Project Management Institute.
More recently Jon provided project management expertise and leadership to cross-functional project teams of a globally renowned research institute. He led the successful merger of two existing commercial subsidiaries into a single new commercial entity, and ensured on-schedule launch. Also with this institute his leadership was critical to the delivery of a new IT system to fundamentally redesign the HR processes across the institute. In both projects Jon’s ability to distil simplicity from complexity, quickly understand the team’s strengths and weaknesses, and align the team to the critical areas of focus, ensured the team was able to deliver meaningful change to the organisation. Clear, focused communications to all levels within the institute was critical to ensuring buy-in to the projects and to providing reassurance to the Institute’s Leadership Team and Board.

Jon has deep experience of the FMCG, nutrition and healthcare sectors. This experience is readily transferable to other highly regulated and science-based consumer businesses. He works with Skarbek’s clients on Project Management – especially new products – and Transformational Change.
