In an impressive military career spanning 24 years in the British Army, Ed was a proven leader and manager at the strategic level and on the front line. He commanded 22 SAS Regiment at all levels, 16 Air Assault Brigade and British Forces in Afghanistan in 2006. This built an uncommon level of experience of managing and dealing with all types of intelligence and risk, HR issues, complex project management and resource allocation. In Afghanistan, Ed planned, prepared, deployed and led the first British Task Force into Helmand Province, comprising 3,500 Army, Air Force, Navy and other government departments. He then double hatted as the UK’s most senior in-country national commander, working alongside 37 other nations’ military, political and diplomatic representatives.
Prior to this, Ed was commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade, the British Army’s largest Brigade of some 8,500 men and women. Concurrent with this he led a McKinsey project team to improve asset utilisation and organisational performance.
