Strengths and Career Achievements

He held positions of increasing responsibility at Salamanca Group where his last role was Executive Director of its Merchant Banking and Operational Risk Management business. In this role he was responsible for leading and developing the group’s Global Business Development team, Marketing and Communications, and Client Relationship Management. As Executive Chairman of Salamanca’s Strategic Risk Management Consultancy, his focus was on developing the business in the energy sector and developing markets of Africa and MENA. During his tenure, Salamanca trebled the size of its revenue and profits. He was part of the management team that recently completed a successful MBO of Salamanca Risk out of the main Group.

In an impressive military career spanning 24 years in the British Army, Ed was a proven leader and manager at the strategic level and on the front line. He commanded 22 SAS Regiment at all levels, 16 Air Assault Brigade and British Forces in Afghanistan in 2006. This built an uncommon level of experience of managing and dealing with all types of intelligence and risk, HR issues, complex project management and resource allocation. Ed led combat operations in Northern Ireland, The Balkans, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and other undisclosed geographies. In Afghanistan, Ed planned, prepared, deployed and led the first British Task Force into Helmand Province, comprising 3,500 Army, Air Force, Navy and other government departments. He then double hatted as the UK’s most senior in-country national commander, working alongside 37 other nations’ military, political and diplomatic representatives.

Prior to this, Ed was commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade, the British Army’s largest Brigade of some 8,500 men and women. Concurrent with this he led a McKinsey project team to improve asset utilisation and organisational performance.

Ed graduated from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations. He also has an MA from Cranfield University in Military Technology and Defence Studies.
