George is a former diplomat, having spent twenty-eight years with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (‘FCO’), specialising in intelligence and counter-terrorism, from which he retired in 2015.
Strengths and Career Achievements
After education at London and Oxford and then a long period of travel, George joined the FCO and was posted to Bonn, Belgrade (during the war in Bosnia), Vienna, Islamabad and Dubai. In between, George was Head of Balkans Department, Russia Department and Director for Africa, SE Asia and the Americas. He was also Director for HR and served on the FCO Management Board. George was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his work in the Balkans and Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) for his work in Islamabad.
Sector and Service Experience
As a former FCO Board member, George has experience of strategy development, alignment and implementation. As a former HR Director he has led complex change programmes and experienced the challenges of turning vision into reality. As a former operational leader, he has had to adapt strategies to complex and volatile business environments as reality collides with plans.
